4 Ways to Get Rid of Belly Hair Fast

You shave your legs and armpits, wax your bikini line, bleach your upper lip, and even pluck a few stray hairs on your chin. But what about those hairs on your stomach? You know—the ones that lead from your belly button down to your pubic area?

If you have one of those all of a sudden, it could signal a hormonal problem that needs to be examined. If you've had belly hair since puberty, there's nothing to worry about.

Either way, you want that hair gone, and here are four main ways to make it happen.

1. Shave it

Think first about your skin before shaving off that hair and as much as possible, avoid shaving cream for tougher skin. While you're shaving, go with the grain (in a downward motion) to avoid ingrown hairs. You'll get fewer nicks and cuts if you wait to shave until the end of your shower, when skin is most hydrated.

2. Wax it

Waxing outperforms shaving but it is way more painful. Avoid exfoliating for several days before to avoid waxing any newly exposed skin layers. And, as always, make sure skin is clean and dry beforehand to get the best results.

3. Use a depilatory

Depilatories (e.g. Veet) aren't as harsh to the skin and hair follicles as shaving or waxing, so they may help you sidestep razor burn or ingrown hairs. The only problem with them is that they are induced with chemicals such as thioglycolate and potassium thioglycolate, which physically weaken the hair. Make sure to test the product on a small portion of skin before going full blast.

4. Laser it

If you have some money to spare, then why not? It is the best hair-removing agent out there and the results are permanent, though you need frequent visits to the doctor to get the desired effect. That's because hair grows in three phases—growing, transitional, and resting—and lasers only target hairs during their growing phase. Make sure that you get your skin evaluated as certain lasers don't work on some skin types.
