Planting Asparagus
  1. Dig a trench 12″ wide by 6″ deep and mound soil in its center. Place crowns on top.
  2. Space the crowns 12″- 18″ apart, and 4′ apart in rows.
  3. Now back fill the trench with soil, covering the crowns with 2″ of soil.

Note that you should add soil every once in a while, until it is slightly mounded around the base of the asparagus.
