Triatomines, also known as kissing bugs, may sounds like friendly insects, but be careful! These insects are named for their habit of biting on the face and around the mouth.
Kissing bugs are attracted to carbon dioxide exhaled by humans, and feed on blood. They are commonly found in the Southern United States, Central America, South America, and Mexico.
This little bugs passes along a serious parasitic infection known as Chagas disease to both human and animals that can cause congestive heart failure.
If you’ve seen this kissing bug near you, be cautious to this symptoms:
- Weakness
- Poor coordination, and confusion
- Seizures or jerky movements
- Diarrhoea
- Swollen abdomen
- Loss of appetite
- Depression and lethargy
- Increased heart rate
An early detection is a must because Chagas disease is known as a silent killer. If left untreated, victims might develop chronic conditions such as heart and intestinal complications, difficulty in breathing, and even death.
