While cooking is enjoyed by a lot of people, it can be quite a difficult task, not to mention, time-consuming. From managing utensils to cutting and cooking, everything is taking time and needs specialization. So to get specialized in cooking and managing a kitchen, you must learn some useful hacks.
Check out these kitchen hacks that may save you precious time:
#1: Garlic - Easily Peel in 30 Seconds or Less
Garlic is one of the most used spices of all. About 99% of sauteeing includes garlic. Garlic is also used in soups and in a variety of dishes.
On average, it takes about 5 minutes to peel garlic off. But did you know you can peel garlic within 30 seconds or less -- and without using a knife?
Simply put the garlic cloves that you need in glass jar or a mason jar, close the lid and shake, shake, shake it off, just like what Taylor Swift would do. In less than a minute, you'll be surprised with the peels getting off from the cloves.
Some cloves, especially those with a relatively high amount of moisture, might need a second shake, which should take half the time needed.
#2: Lettuce - Keep the Moist Away by Putting Tissue on Lettuce Upon Storage
Drying the lettuce after washing can be quite difficult. Of course you can leave it to dry in a colander for a few minutes before storing in your fridge. However, there is a way to get around this -- after washing, gently shake the lettuce leaves to get rid of the excess water, put the lettuce leaves in a bowl, then place a tissue on it and cover it up with a wrap.
The tissue will absorb the left-over water and will keep your lettuce dry, moist-free and crisp.
#3: Butter - Worry No More About Hard-to-Slice Butter Kept in the Fridge
Have you ever experienced having to wait for butter to thaw before slicing? Or have you ever needed to rush your breakfast that you have to apply extra pressure on your butter knife just to get a butter slice or two? You won't have to worry about this no more.
You can simply use a cheese grater! You can either directly grate your butter onto your bread or put grated butter in a bowl before putting to fridge. Easy, practical and saves time!
#4: Yogurt - Enjoy Yogurt Like Never Before
Looking for the perfect cool treat that you don't have to feel guilty about? Try iced yogurt!
Simply look for a yogurt that comes in a container with wider opening than the bottom. Put a spoon or a popsicle stick through the tops of the yogurt and freeze them before their expiration.
#5: Basil - Keep Basil Fresh the Same Way You Would Do a Flower
To keep basil fresh, you need to cut the stems and put them in water like fresh-cut flowers. Just cover them loosely in a plastic bag. This will keep basil fresh and green for up to two weeks!
#6: Oranges - Four-Way Step to Enjoy Them Without the Hassles of Peeling
First, thinly cut off the top and bottom portion without cutting the flesh.
Second, cut a slit from the top to the bottom.
Third, gently roll the orange out into a strip.
Finally, enjoy your oranges!
#7: Eggs -Quickly Determine if Stored Eggs are Still Good
To find out if eggs are still good, we'll make use of what's called The Sound Test.
Egg shells are porous, it means they let out moisture and let air in over time creating air pockets inside. So when you hear a sloshing sound when you shake it by your ear, the egg is likely at least 2 weeks old and should be disposed off.
#8: Cherry Pits - Avoid This Potentially Toxic Part of Cherries Easily
There's a debate whether cherry pits contain toxic substances and people have started avoiding eating this part of the fruit.
To get rid of the pit, simply put the cherry upside down on top of a glass bottle with opening a bit smaller than the cherry itself. Using a chopstick or backside of a skewer, poke out the inside stem while keeping the cherry remains in one piece.
#9: Juicing Fruits - Make the Most Out of Your Fruit Juices
Some people roll fruits around to soften them before juicing. But to really make the most out of your squeezes, you can put them in a microwave for 10-30 seconds.
This method will soften thick peels and burst tiny juice vessels within the fruit, which will allow you to get more juice out without all the work.
#10: Frozen Grapes - The Healthiest Way to Eat Grapes
Wash the grapes and put on a wax paper to get rid of the excess water. The wax paper will also prevent them from sticking with each other.
Put the grapes in freezer and let it freeze for at least three hours. You can poke popsicle sticks or tooth picks in the grapes or you can use the frozen grapes as replacement for ice to chill your wine.
